I have brought F100 for nearly one year and I found that though the picture quaulity is not bad but the DC itself is not durable.

"I found that it always out of work."

For my f100, the lens have been out of work that couldn't move and cause me money and time for repair.
Now, it is the focus funciton that can't make any change. It now become a fixed focal length DC.!

I don't have any confidence in Minolta product now!!!

Of course, I would like to get one better than F100.

Do you have any suggestion?

Hi Kochun ! I also bought the F100 for almost a year ! After I bought it, I regret that I didn't buy S45 for paying about $800 more ! (At that moment). The zoom is damn slow and the flash is damn weak ! I did exchange it for 3 times when I bought it ! But for the third one, after I use a month, it can't focus ! Just like your situation ! Only the Macro works ! Luckily I bought the "Hong" product so they repair for me !
About your situation, you don't have any warranty ? About the focus problem, I heard that the repair fees is about $800 if you bring it back to Minolta for repair !
But I won't say that Minolta is a bad brand name as you can see that at this moment, you still can't any brand can make such small DC with many manual functions ! And it seems that F200 and F300 don't have any problems wor ! So don't be bias la !
About your choice, I won't suggest S5000 ! The appearance is really good but it is made of plastic ! And the shutter is too short ! Only Max for 2s ! I rather choose DX6490 ! I think the best long zoom DC at this moment is C750 ! But if you can't wait, I will see how the FZ10 performs ! I see some photos taken by FZ1 and FZ2 and they looks fine !

Thanks for your comment Kochun ! That's too bad that your F100 don't have any warranty ! But in my opinion, if the fixing fees is $800, I think I will consider it and treat the DC as a secondary DC ! Especially F100 is such a small DC with many manual functions ma !
About the long zoom DC, if you don't mind the XD card expensive, I still prefer 750z ! DX6490 may be the best Kodak DC in this year but I believe that it still can't better than 750 ! For FZ10, I like it too ! But the price......... even the "Water" cost $5000 ! Too expensive la ! I won't consider it at this price ! As I just read the news from Dpreview.com, Scandisk will make the XD card and I think the price for XD card will be cheaper later !

compact size, AA battery, extensive manual control.
This is the reason I brough the F100 one year ago. But I regret also!
For it's slow start up, no AF assis lamp (difficult to focus in low light), and prolong shot to shot time due to the slow recharge of flash!
Also, I need to set up the time and other personal setting after I change the battery every time in recent months. I took it to minolta's service centre, and they told me it is due to the exhaust of the internal battery and they DONOT has the battery to replace it, I need to wait and no set date!!
What a service of Minolta!
I am considering to buy another DC also. And seems that S50 is good for me.
Is there anyone give me further advice?

It is true that Minolta F-series is a slow motion DC ! Everything is slow except for batteries usage ! Haaaaa ! But seriesly, F100 have already come out to market for almost 2 years ! At that period, the only competitor is Canon S40 ! For photo quality, F100 is as good as S40 ! About the customer services for Minolta, I think their manner is good ! Compare to Canon, you will know that Minolta staff is much much better la !
