What's the GN values of 420EX and 550EX?

I would like to buy either one for my G3 with bounce technique. So I think 420EX does not have enough power.

On the other hand, I have tried 550EX once and it's really good except for the heavy weight and price!

Can anyone give me comment? thx a lot!

420EX: GN=42
550EX: GN=55

just ask yourself one question: how sure are you that you won't use SLR/DSLR in the future? if sure that you won't go into SLR, then maybe a 420ex is enough, otherwise i highly recommend the 550ex

I think 42 & 55 are only the GN values at 105mm.

Anyone knows the GN values at 50mm?

Also, are 2nd hand items safe to buy? thx a lot!

420EX is "Approximately 1 / 2-stop less powerful than 550EX"

買550EX好D啦，我有個朋友以前用G2，以為買支420EX夠用…係…無錯…係G2上係夠用…但之後轉後幾代機就唔多得了…又放了二手出去…
我覺得閃光唔好只買夠用就得(除非你好肯定之後唔會轉機)…

just sell my 420ex and change to 550ex

550ex 配 300D or 10D very nice

420ex with 300D is hard to set output power, cannot add power +/-

550ex約$2500，而420ex約$1400。有錢的話當然是買550ex，因為它的功能比420ex多好多！

當50mm時，420ex的GN值是34。
