Since you are 新手, 350D and D50 may be too complicated for you. You may want to consider a cheap but good second hand dc, such as Nikon 995 and 5700( no offense Canon people, there are similar and equally good quality Canon dc but I just don't the model number). These are good quality dcs and it lets you take picture manually. You could play with metering, shuttle speed, aperture, iso, etc. After you play with it for a while, you will understand the pros and cons of dc, and you will know what you what specific features that you want. Then you will be able to decide 350D or D50 easily for yourself. Keep in mind that taking good pictures has little to do with camera 99.99% of the time. And 99.999999% of people cannot tell if a picture is taken with Nikon or Canon or any other brands.

Based on www.dpreview.com, D50 improved grain/noise and retained the sharpness.
I'm a 350D user and would recommend D50

Whatever you choose, you won't go wrong.

Yes, I agree with dominic.

I buy D50 today as many web sites recommend this camera.
During this week, I searched many info about D50, and found that
there are some improvements such as grain/noise problem on D70/D70s. (I used D70 for more than 0ne year).
1) Today, I test the moire 麼以紋 (即在高反差下拍條紋)
For example, 在陽光下拍故宮的屋簷頂, 我曾試過有嚴重"麼以紋"
但用 D50 對住有條紋的銀色光管罩卻很清楚拍到 original 條紋.
2) 測光不錯, 有改進.

暫時來講, I satisfy with my D50. So, I cannot say that "I down grade to
D50", Fact, D50 solves some problems which on D70/D70s.
不過, 今天交戰左很久, 既然自己用過D70, 買部最 cheap 型號的 D50,
(好似自己都 cheap 左d 咁), 抑或買沒有多大改變的 D70s 呢?
終於克服了心理關口, 買了有較多改進的D50.
以我的三腳貓技術, D50 少了的一些功能, 老實講, 我好日都唔到這些功能,
有冇都冇所謂, 最重要解決左 D70 的舊問題.
用咁cheap價, 有咁正貨色, 簡直一絕

至於 350D, 應該都唔錯, high tech, 色彩鮮, 較柔和, 影人一流.

影景多, choose Nikon. 而影人多, choose Canon.

趁未選定 Nikon or Canon, 做多d 功課, 睇下自己取向先都未遲.

Is that true that 350D fares better in noise than Nikon's D-series?

I heard a lot of reviews are saying that Canon 350D and 20D is strong in noise handling especially in high ISO number.

And it is not as much losses in image details as in the noise mechanism employed by Konica!! While it is slightly softer, the display of more details are obvious particularly in the high ISO number.

These look like sales catalog from Canon marketing salesman. Let me add that there are 35 zones sensors and 7 point AF sensor on 350D. The FPS is faster with Canon.

350D auto focus do not perform up to my expectation.

350D flash sync only 1/200 second vs D50 1/500.

All other 350D features are good.
Wish there is mirror lock button too.
