Amoung four of the most famous brands,
Canon is producing their own FF & APS-C CMOS
Sony is producing their own APS-C CCD and supplies Nikon and others
Fulifilm is producing their own APS-C SuperCCD
Only Nikon does not have the capability for the light sensor

Fujifilm & Sony should not have big problem to develop their own FF CCD for their dslr, when only subject to the market trend and competition.

If all of the three brands have their FF dslr in line, how Nikon can compete, and maintain their market shares & the leading reputation in the industry? Even Sony may supply FF CCD to Nikon, the cost will definitely be marked up very high and make Nikon FF dslr cannot compete in the market.

i am interested whether Fujifilm will launch their first FF dslr very soon, even as soon as their next model S4Pro??

Thank you for the supplementary info. i never heard LBAST used on dslr, it it right?

If Fujiflim's next dslr is with FF SuperCCD I think it will be a very hot product.

LBAST used in D2H & D2Hs, only 4MP.

If superCCD is FF, it should be very powerful, may be available for using ISO 12800 & very few noise
However, normal CCD making FF size still difficult and expensive. Can't imagine how expensive of FF SuperCCD is.

i see, D2Hs is using JFET LBCAST with only 4.1M pixels.

Do you have any idea about the cost of an APS-C size CCD? Let say what's the cost to replace a new CCD when warranty expired? It may be a hint for the cost of the FF CCD.

fuji has long history in digital work in past 2 decades!! but 135FF, there are more difficult to build, both hard- and softwares!!!!
14N is the first one to make breakthrough, and canon improve and even better, and finally,real FF dream comes true!!!

You can't forecast the cost of the FF CCD by the cost of APS CCD.
It should be varied by the technology of manufacturing developed nowaday, it is the secret. of business.

I don't think FF sensor defective rate is a main issue.
For kodak had already solved this also.

The main issue is the body & lens.
Unless fujifilm using a new design body/lenses, it's hard to compete with can0n FF digital if still using nikon old bodies.

I think FF sensor defective rate is a critical issue.
It is the main factor for the cost of all sensor.

If the defective rate is 90%, that means only 10% products could be sold
Thus, if the defective rate is 0%, the cost will be lower to 1/10.

For example,
4 years before, if produce a FF CMOS was $3000 but only 10% could be sold, thus the cost is $30000
Nowaday, if produce a FF CMOS still $3000 and 30% could be sold, then the cost is $10000
Not obvious enough?

BTW, i see all the middle size digital backs are smaller than the original film size of those cameras. Who has idea about this?
