I have got a Olympus 5050Zoom, and I have forgotten to remove the lens cover before switch on my DC a few times, so will it do any damage to my camera? The pictures seems alrite, but why it looks it's not very clear comparing to Cannon G2, I have heard people said that pictures from Olympus C5050Zoom is no good when u look at it in computer, but it looks fine when you print it out. is that rite? please advise.....

I am also a 5050 user.

I think there is no serious damage but it is not good to the camera in long run. If you cannot correct this bad habbit, I suggest you do what I do. I had the adapter ring CLA-1 on all the time with a 43mm UV filter screwed on. The lens cap is not as fit as before but it will hold firm. Even if you forgot to remove the cap, the lens can still be extended freely. Moreover, you also have a UV filter to protect the lens. The bad thing is that the camera becomes bigger when it is off and there is always a tube sticking out. You cannot use the original soft case.

My pictures are very sharp and clear but it is a bit noisy when viewing in the PC. I always have them printed in Fotomax in 4R size and the picture quality is very good indeed.

It's a very good solution by the way. But what I am doing now is when ever I switch off my camera, I just screw the rotation button to "view picture" mode, so the lens won't entended out even I forgot to remove the lens when I switch on the camera.

My pictures looks fine when printed out, but same case as you...a bit noisy when viewing it in pc....dunno why..is it normal? do you know?

I have noticed that Cannon G2 and G3 have the good quality in both printed out and also when you viewing it in PC.

Do you mind if you can send me some of your sample picture that you took with your 5050? becoz I really want to make sure that my lens didn't get damage becoz I have forgotton to remove the cap when I switch on.....or I can send you my pictures if you don't mind, so u can tell my pictures are normal or not. is it okay for you?

Don't be so worry. Your lens is not going to be damged that easily. Also, the lens cap is only obstucting the mechanical parts to extend the lens tube. I think Olympus engineers would think about some protection in this design since they have used similar mechanism in the C series cameras in their history.
