I just upgraded from D50 to D300. I have used my new D300 for 1 day.
Of course, D300 is more professional than D50. Everything is better and more professional than my previous D50. I am very safistfactory with the $ that I spent. BUT in some way, I feel my D50 can produce sharper photo than D300.
Do any C hing who upgraded from D50 to D300 have the same feeling?
Is this because of D300 use CMOS and D50 using CCD? And this result in less noise in high ISO in D300, but in general less sharper photo?

that is usually the case with higher end model... entry model like D50 or D40 are set up to optimal sharpness and minimal adjustment by the end user. while D300 might require some user adjustments.

the D3 jpeg sharpness is actually worse than the D300 when 直出

I've heard the D3 and D300 also can remove purple fringe on some lens

Oh dear surewinlui, I just want to upgrade my D50 to D300, after watching your comment, I have to consider carefully again. Let me tell you, my D50 picture quality is better than D70, I think this is a similar case to your D300. You have to take 'RAW' and then post-edit the photos.

D70 is okay when you adjusted the curve in custom tone setting. I don't usually shoot Raw, it just take up too much space and time, I'd rather spend that time out taking more photo.

you can also use VIVID mode and set the Satuation to high on D300 to boost the colour

the colour on D300 is much bolder than on D200 for sure.

Yes, I know the advantage of using RAW. But I shoot many photos, so I only use RAW once a while. I prefer more shooting than large amount of RAW photo computer editing or adjusting. Quite often I shoot JPEG.

Do any of the experienced C Hing know whether I can download or install the TONE, COLOUR, SHARPNESS SEETING of D50 to my D300. By doing that I will have a SUPER D50? Thanks!! Merry Christmas.

I am not sure about D300, it does have custom tone curve setting on Contrast setting.

for D70 you can use nikon capture to upload a custom curve to the camera

also, shoot SRGB at ViVid mode can improve the colour on normal printers and monitors too.

I had tried to download a custom curve from nikon capture to D70 but I found that it does not help a lot( the picture still grey, saturation no good...). So I have given up 2 years ago already.

different curves have different effects on D70. I am not sure which one you tried.

I also set my colour mode to SRGB mode 3, Satuation to Enhanced.
