G3 is coming to be out soon. When you consider G3, please note that it has a very slow autofocus response at low light level.
Recent test of S50 showed quite good picture quality in stevesdigicam.com's web site.
Or you can wait for the G4 coming later.

G2 (hong) -- about $3600 - 3700
G2 (water) -- about $ 3200 - 3300
2nd hand G2 should be about 2000 - 2200 is reasonable as G2 is outdated product, it was issued by one and half year ago, many 2nd hand G2 is out of warranty.

G3 (hong) -- about $4650
2nd hand G3 (hong) should be about 3500 - 3800 (depends on conditions). If someone sell you at more than $4000 for a very new G3, then you must consider to pay a few hundred more to buy a really new one or the 2nd hand.

It is my own opinion.

For me, I like G3, but much expensive than G2. For budget user, I prefer to buy a 2nd hand G2. But do not forget the price is below $2500. Some guys always sell their G2 at $3000. It is too expensive. We can buy a new water G2.

I also want to buy a G2 or G3 for travel use, but the 2nd hand price is very high here. In fact, I bought G3 in Dec , 2002 . And I sold out at Mar, 2003 as I want to change F717. The price I sold out is $ 3800 only ,including all accessories and box. Also, many people asked me for $3700 only to buy my very very new G3. Now , I want to buy G3 again as F717 is very big in size. So, I think the 2nd hand price should be below $3800.

How about Casio QV5700. It is also good.

QV5700 is a DC. The color is natural. But G2 and G3 are soft. CP5700 is sharp. If you join DC solon competition, G2 and G3 is better, no need to spend more time to change the sharp photo to a soft photo.

But I like G3. Because the outlook is better than G2.

But some people who has G2 and G3 said that G2 lens is better than G3 lens.
