I bought a F717 water good yesterday
And I was happy with it yesterday night (indoor)
But as I wake up this morning and took some shots
(5X tele, shooting the street at 21/F)
I found that the noise is quite obvious (though I also found that in some indoor shot especially the shadow) and some purple fringing.

Is it just my F717 or it is like that?

Please check 5 mp DC like 7hi, 5700 and compare the noise.
At 100% display on screen you can see the noise in dim area and artifacts in smooth area like blue sky.

If you want noise free pic I think you have to get DSLR like S2pro, D100, 10D etc. These kind of SDLR built with large CCD gives very low signal to noise level.

The smaller CCD the higher signal to noise level.

4 mega pixel CCD is usually 1/1.8 size gives 0.555
5 mega pixel CCD is ususlly 2/3 size gives 0.666 20% larger.

Thus a 2 mega pixel give even worse noise like my FZ1.

Compare original images of your 717 with 7Hi and 5700 in www.dpreview.com and you will feel a lot better.

I had over estimated the quality come from pro-sumer DCs
As I view the 100%pic crops from 7Hi, it is really noisy compare with mine. And I think 5700 is a bit better than F717 in ISO100.

And I also tell my fd to shoot some images in dim places and his (CP4300) does exibit a lot more noise than mine....that makes me feel Much better! (Finally, this is normal)

Hi, I also bought Sony F-717 last week and when I tested it out, I found the picture quality is not as good as I expected. In fact, I used Canon G2 before and when I compared the picture quality with my current F-717, I found Canon G2 is better.

I think I also over expected the picture quality of Sony F-717. My friend is using Nikon 5700 and I can tell the picture quality of Nikon 5700 is far better.

Quite disappointed with Sony F-717.

I am using f717 too!
And I found that the photo quality when viewed in PC is not as good as people said. It is much dimmer and desaturated and I need to PS the photos everytime. Quite trouble.

F717 是不差的, 每部 DC 都不是十全十美, 如果D相只是差過 cp5700少少 , 我一樣選擇 F717, 我寧願夜晚可以影相, 因為 CP5700 及很多 DC 在暗地方都對唔到焦. (不一定全部相都差過, 因我兩部都測試過, 我有很多朋友買了 CP5700 後都很快賣掉給其他朋友, 話他們唔識影相, 又唔係呀, 他們有些是攝影師, 有些廣告界, 有個是美指, 更有個還是有名的攝影人, 我都 R 頭, 好似話太過 sharp, 有時太 sharp 未必係好事喎, 對某些作品構成影響, 而且部份比賽更不能執相添, 於是我問他們點解唔要埋 CP5700 來影 sharp 的題材, 回答是"我們多數用菲林, DC 用一兩部表現均衡的就夠", 不過他們大多數都有 G2 ),
G2 -- off course a very good DC. 我都用過, 機皇, 我覺得好過 CP5700 and 7Hi 添. 最衰貪得意換了 G3.

Remarks : 部機好唔好純屬個人喜好, 像很多人說 s602 好, 很多人說CP5700 好, 很多人說G2........, 但亦有很人說 S602 差...................自己喜歡咪 OK lol.

ousi 同志, F717 已經很不錯的, 表現均衡, View Finder 又靚過 cp5700 and 7Hi 很多. 對焦又快, 夜間永冇失焦, (千奇唔好同我講話用電筒及laser pointer 代替, X+Y@# 再 X#@?YYFUXK), 閃燈又強, 不過影日出日落就好講技巧 -- 缺點, 我不是偏幫 F717 呀, 只因我用過不少於十五部 DC, 所以整體來說都略略知其性能罷.

But I am really disappointed with F-717's picture quality. Canon G2 is much much better.

However, Sony F-717 is not cheap, it's more expensive than Canon G2 but the quality is worse than G2.

咪住....... 你話d 相質素差, 係在你的電腦一個個pixel 睇, 還是曬出來呢??

要比, 係應該曬佢出來, 五百萬象咪曬十二r 比比看, 咁應該會正常d......

而家多左人用dslr, 就係一個個pixel 睇, 所以又多左人買高級鏡...... 其實好多時, 中級鏡同高級鏡在 4, 5r 都唔係太明顯......... 你放到咁大實差啦~~~

I tried to 曬出來 and compared with Canon G2 at the same shop. The picture quality of Canon G2 is much better than Sony F-717.

咁都有可能, 但你講g2 好過 717, 係看佢sharp 唔sharp, 還是色差, or 其他呢??? canon 機一向sharp (我就唔係咁好....... soft d 好少少...)
