I understand your frustration, however, how do you expect a shop like this, charge you $1/print and offer you the prints in an hour, handling
hundreds of clients a day, with everyone bringing in tiff or psd that can be 50-100M/file? They can't even upload everything by working 24hrs/day.

If I were the menager, I will definitely not install anything that reads tiff or other large file types. Most of them just need 3/4R, why tiff? If you are printing A3 or up, and willing to pay >$50 per print, then this would be another type of shop.

Relax, you missed my point. :-)

I know what you said, I print A3 at home.

What I wanted to say is the business nature of this level of lab is for quantity, i.e. earn a little from each print, but to process tens of thousands of prints every day.

Tiff has much bigger file size. One of my dslr produses tiff of ~100M. If I take 3 rolls of film equivalent to the lab, i.e. 10G storing space is needed. There will be a loing queue just for uploading to his machine. Do you expect they can charge you $1 per print and deliver to you in an hour?

If there is any software that can read tiff, it has to be removed from their machine. Even if they can open it, they will, and have to tell you they can't.

8M dslr can give 48M tiff.

Well, the actual size of tiff is not the key. Don't let your anger to cloud your sensorium.
