I'm new to DSLR, just brought my first DSLR Olympus E-500
April this year.

I choose it becasue of its price ($6300 with two lens kit), weight and colour of direct output for travel. It is totally acceptable when you consider performance/price, although CAF is a bit slow for bird shooting. Also it will be more useful If there is antishake function. hopefully the the next model is coming in Sep.

十分靚的旅行照 ^_^，雖然e-500 ISO:400以上NOISE 較多是事實，但ISO:100-200時十分無敵、锐利而飽和亦是事實，況且NOISE 並不代表一切...............

Yes. E-500 does have its limitation. eg. noiser at higher iso
This is expected before I buy it. To me, noise can be greatly reduced by software anyway if needed.

I just want to tell "someone" - I pay $$ for what I think suit me the most at that time. (ultrasound CCD cleaning, 2.5" high resolution CCD, kit lens from 28-300mm, light in weight). . What any other option I can have with $<6500?

I believe all DSLR on the market can make great photos.
After 1 month trip...I think "Patience & Careful observation" are far more important than system.

Anyway, I just a beginner but have learnt a lot from here and other forums. But seeing non-stop attack on Olympus by "someone" at several forums, really 你不厭 我亦看到倦~

其實人地講乜真係唔駛點理的，用咁多時間心機去研究機能，一未只係比數字，比速度比noise的人，影的相靚極有限。
不過又講真，orthom兄又真係把om呢兩支kit lens發揮得好盡了！

Yes. Olympus kit lenses are good (according to many other users). But Aperature 3.5 seems not enough under some environments.
Also, I prefer sharp image. so my default is sharpness always +1.
