The differences between Hong goods and water goods are :-
(1) Hong goods are imported directly from factory by an authorized distributor, say in Hong Kong; and water goods are purchased from any exporters by unauthorized distributors here.
(2) Water goods are named 'grey goods' or 'parallel-imported goods'.
(3) Quality-wise, there is no difference between the two. except :-
(a) Hong goods will come with a warranty card issued by the local agent.
(b) While most of the manuals are now bilibgual, some may carry the language for the orginally designated market only.
(c) The function menu of the product might not carry English or Chinese.
(4) Price of Hong goods are relatively expensive than water goods.
(5) Hong goods carry a free 1-year warranty which entitles you to receive free-of-charge maintenance from the local agent within the first 12 months after purchase.
On the otherhand, with water goods, you can only receive a 12-month warranty from the shop which you purchase the product.
(6) After the 12-month warranty has expired, you will have to pay for any maintenance service to the agent who will in turn charge you normally a listed price.
They may also help you to solve the problem free if not a major one.
For water goods, the shop may not take further responsibility and hence you will have to seek service from the agent, for which you will have to pay a much higher cost since your product is not imported by them.
My advice is :-
If you are a freshman, you should consider hong goods when the product which you intend to puchase is expensive, highly technical and electronically complicated; and water goods if vice-versa.
Hoping the above helps.
