Seem to me you are one of our kind. wild life photography. Forget about compact camera on this topic. go for a DSLR with a good 400mm lense.

As a businessman. I have a lots of business trip oversea. Whenever I am travelling. Weight is the major factor governing the equipments that I can carry. I normally bring my D1H and the following lense with me.

Nikon 24-120VR AF-S and the Nikon 70-200 f2.8VR

This 2 lense cover most of the focal length I want and it is very easy to handle. Since I am on a business trip. I cannot carry a tripods. The VR lense can give me the kind of shot I can use it holding in my hand.

While I am in Hong Kong. I normally use the Nikon 400 f2.8 AF-S. It is a bigger and longer lense that really need to be sit on a tripods. But with the f2.8. I can shoot in very cloudy day or dark area and still got the result I want.

I keep most of my lense at f2.8 all the time. You will know why while you are in the wild. Daynight sometime just not there. Flash is out of the question in most of wild life photography.

Something to update. I am sorry. The camera I use is F5 not the D1H. I am waiting for the D2H
