~Hot shoe is the connection point between the external flash and camera.

~When the distance between object and camera is too far for the built-in flash to make a sufficient exposure.
OR when shooting with built-in flash straightly the model, the face will be too bright. Then use the external flash mounted on the hot shoe, making a 'bound' technique to make the flash more smooth on the face.

~Choose a compatible flash, mount it and power on.
Be sure the built-in flash is off when use external flash or sheild it off when using.
