D30 at $4500 is about the market price I think, drop about thousand after 300D.

Points to check when buy 2nd body:-
1. Basic operation, try to turn the aperture and shutter speed dial to see if they work (with a lens, w/ large aperture like 50mm f1.8, from you).
2. Test the internal flash.
3. Try to take continuous shots to see if read/write work wells.
4. If you have notebook, take along with you to see the photos taken. If no, try to see it at LCD but it would be more difficult.
5. Basic test on dead pixel on either LCD and CCD/CMOS.

Outlook condition can also tell you its past usage.
