i also have little experience to share, and i don't have a DSLR. my little experience in the past is sigma lens is easy to breakdown, and my cheap zoom end up with non-curable sticky aperture blades and not usable in small apertures settings.

my boss use 10D + sigma 17-40mm, my brief impression is the AF speed is a touch lower than my other experiences with Canon's own lens.

and same bad experience with my old minolta film camera, focus is slow and not accurate enough with the old version Tamron SPAF 90mm macro.

and i have read a lot of internet discussions, outlining people have compatibility problems when they upgrade their bodies.

so adding all up, i will try to avoid 3rd party lenses.

I have a EOS 33. When I bought the body and test other brands' lens, the AF speed is significant slower than the Canon's USM lens. For me, AF speed is very important, so I've got no choice!

The Tamron wide angle zoom used on my Nikon AF body has no problem at all, and auto-focusing is very fast !
But my personal opinion is that color saturation 色彩艷麗 is weaker than Nikon lens.

Any other 影友 has good points/problems with their 非原廠鏡?

I bought the Sigma APO 50-500mm F4-6.3 & APO Tele Converter 1.4x EX last month 4 the Harbour Fest Concert...
I found that is work very good 2 me... since I pay $5900 =^_^=

At first I was thinking 2 buy the Nikon 80-400mm VR but it will cost me $11000.... so I decided why not to go 4 the Sigma... The only disadvantage about the Sigma lens is when I put on the Tele Converter and the AF is gone... I can only work with MF... but other than that is work perfect to me! =^_^=

I bought the Tamron 28-75 F2.8. No complain, value for money except the picture comes out darker than my other lens which I need to compensate the exposure.

Actually, I think I will not buy any zoom lens anymore, I can definitely see the difference between prime (fixed focal lens) and zoom. I am going to buy the EF 35 F2.0 and I am sure it will outperform my Tarmon 28-75.

我就建議你假如用Canon機就最好用番原廠鏡, 因為如果將來換新body時可能用唔番d副廠鏡, 原因是d chipst唔夾, 要去副廠鏡維修部換過d chips先得
Nikon 就無此問題

Yes for the Canon 1Ds/1D/10D is better to use L series lens then any other lens... cux I have friends that use 1D and 10D always complain about the AF when using 3rd party lens.... sometime is just not what you want to focusing at... >.<

But I never have any problem on my Nikon D100... =^_^=

I guess is just because Canon D-SLR is just very good... and you can only fit with the best lens... However I never heard of anything about 300D with any 3rd party lens...

I totally agree about your opinion... zoom lens is not as good as non-zoom lens

But I really think that you need to have a lot of money to in order to get all those lens(from 14mm to 300mm...)

here is my opinion on non-zoom lens must buy...
14mm F2.8 (u need to have a lot of money)
20mm F1.8
50mm F1.4
85mm F1.8
105mm F2
*** 14mm F2.8 & 300mm F2.8(u need to have a lot of money =^_^=)
This is also what I want for my D100...

Looks like the problem of third party lens occurs in Canon cameras. I understand that Canon's motor design in the lens is different from Nikon's.

As I said earlier, my Tamron SP 20-40mm zoom on my Nikon AF body works fine, and I have no complaints about it.

LifeAfterDeath 兄, I also want a Nikon AF 85mm f1.8 ah! Very sharp for portraits (though for D-SLR it is of longre focal length)
