1Ds (Full frame) and 1D (1.3) are totally different grade
why don't name the current 1D as other name?
e.g.
1Ds->1D
1D->10D
10D->100D
300D->3000D

Canon like using "1" to name her toppest model

F1 - New F1-
EOS1 - EOS1n - EOS1V -
EOS1D - EOS 1Ds - EOS1D Mark 2

1Ds is newer than 1D. both of them are the toppest model of Canon DSLR when announced. Design and built quality of camera body are base on the toppest film SLR EOS 1v.

Although 1D mark2 using lower resolution and smaller CMOS. It have same grade of Camera Body as 1Ds. Moreover it provide the world fastest continous shooting speed and large memory buffer. Then it should be one of the toppest model in Canon.

1Ds and 1D mark2 are design for different market. 1Ds is design for
Portrait, Landscape and Studio work. 1D mark2 is design for sports photographer and news photographic reporter.
