I think you don't need to consider too much on Megapixel... even 4Megapixel could give u fine 8R size prints...

Consider few more things like this...

Zoom range (not only how many XX zoom, but its widest and its "telest" zoom; like Canon G6's 35-140mm; Ricoh R1's 28~135mm)
Some basic "manual" features: P/A/S/M mode, very essential shooting modes for learning photography...
Some specs. of each DC: like shutter speed range, Aperture range, ISO range, movie (so long as u'd like shooting movie w/ your sweetheart =p); additional features like RAW-file shooting, Bracketing...

If a sizable flip-LCD screen is a must, Consider Canon A95/ G6; G6 has some add. features, but buying A95 would save you some $$ to buy additional lens/ filters which further extend your zoom range (would b funny if you enjoy adding these different stuff)

Personally recommend Canon S1 IS, which has a pretty good zoom range and image stablizer, great movie feature... though its 3.2MP and 1.5" LCD screen would annoy you... but just don't blindly after high-MP DC... they don't necessarily mean you'd have better photos...

Not recommend for V50, as it seems not receiving any good comment from reviews (regarding its photo quality, regardless it's a rich-feature DC)

If you don't mind a nonflipable-LCD screen, I'd recommend you Casio P600... a really pro yet tiny DC, w/ great quality in photos...

Anyway, I don't really know other brands other than Canon... research yourself... just a reminder that most DCs have "Scene" modes for easy-shooting... if you do like something 半專業... compare the spec. of different DC

請留意, Jacky 要係Flip 270 度作自拍, 即係單手持相機看著LCD自拍, 你地介紹佢買D機部部都係 35mm 鏡頭, 最 Wide 都係 28mm 自拍就只得個頭, 除非 Jacky 兄隻手有 6 呎長啦.

可以 Flip LCD 玩自拍又有小小風景影到, 又有 Wide Angle, 又有 500 萬像. Olympus 5060 啦, 相信無得選擇

If you really enjoy learning all those features from G6, you'll probably consider DSLR later =p

I just bought a relatively old A70 2 months ago... and now I'm really enjoy to have tried out most functions of my DC and I think i'll consider stepping up to DSLR later ^^

haha... I'm hoping the successor of S1 IS come out by that time...

I really like the current S1, but I do want more from it... like RAW file, hot-shoe (although not very likely), Macro-mode, higher resolution (@ least 4MP) & bigger CCD size (like 1/1.8), and the very least AF-assist lamp >.<

anyway, Jacky, will ur gf use the DC as well? or it's you mainly using the DC shooting her and you yourself (自拍)... consider some smaller model if she's using... perhaps she doesn't like too large DC =p

當然她都會用的，她用的機會比我還多，
不過她不介意size，反而她介意是不是物有所值，
部機個外型不美也不要緊，
不如大家來投票：
1. Ｃanon A95
2. Canon G6
3. 其他不超過7000元的Flip LCD相機
有興趣就玩下

我建議你買兩部機,budget仲可以係7000以下

方案一:optio X(3000-3500)&panasonic fz3(2800-3300)
前者扭芒同埋輕500萬,後者300萬,防震+手動+12光學變蕉+tiff file format

又或者一take過,有:

方案二:optio 750(4500-4900)
有晒方案一優點,700萬,不過速度慢同埋得5倍光學
or
方案三:a95(3500-3900)
500萬,用到aa,但係速度最慢同埋得3倍變焦但有得加鏡頭,但又係錢問題
