Hi everyone,

I know I will get a lot of "Why?" reply from all of you ... but I still want to know where I can get the EPSON R-D1 in Hong Kong.

As I know it's going to be released in USA at US$2999, I suspect the RRP of HK$30000 would drop ... is this the case?

Has anyone already had this camera would like to share his/her experience?

Actually I'm also looking forward to buy a digital RF, unfortunately the price tag of RD-1 really scare me and from the sample photos I think this camera don't worth HK$30000.

If I were you I'll wait for 1-2 years more. I think there must be another digital RF coming out then, if it is not from Leica, it'll probably be Zeiss Ikon.

Of course if I have the money I'll go to buy the RD-1, at the end of the day money talks.

To ooops:

yeah ... rumour has that Digital-M will be out in 2006 ... in the meantime, I'm sure someone will come up another digital RF (R-D2 maybe?) :)

To gaiuswong:

agree ... reason why this camera is so expensive because it is the first one in the market (no competition at all .. well if you are into digital rangefinder that is)

on the side line, what do you think about the new Bessar R3A?

The selling price for a hong one is about HK$22,000 in Central.

checked the lowest price i can find in japanese kakaku.com for R-D1 is JPY 270,000, i.e. around HKD 20,000. so i think 22k for hong good sounded very reasonable.

in case you haven't come across this one, there are quite a few samples taken by the R-D1 here.

Thanks for the link you shared, the pics taken with R-D1 is very nice but again, not particularly amazed when looking back to the price tag...

The photos are very sharp with nice color. But I think with today's CCD technology, digital camera still cannot truly reflect the power of Leica lens. You can hardly tell the difference using lens from Leica, Zeiss, Nikon, Canon or even Sigma.

To me, today is still not the time to spend several tens of thousand dollars on a set of gear which the result is almost the same as a Canon 300D kit which just cost less than HK$10000.
