I want to buy a tele lens and a mid-range lens. I did some research and have some choices now. I'm using Canon 300D.

tele lens:
Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L IS
Sigma 100-300mm f4 EX
mid-range:
Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L
Canon 50mm f1.4
Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro

Which lenses would you recommend? Your reasons? For tele lenses, the 70-200mm f2.8 + 1.4x extender is equivalent to 100-300mm f4, but the price is so different (2x!!). I believe the Sigma 100-300mm has very good quality at its product range. Does anyone use this lens?

Why not Sigma APO 75-300?

I suggest you to but Sigma APO 70-300mm lens !
I t is cheap , and the quality is same as canon's one ( 70-200 ) !

Sigma 70-300mm has a smaller and changing aperture. The barrel also stretches when zooming. It's easier to have dust and moisture, so I don't consider it.

Also, is Tamron 28-75mm worthy to consider?

I got 24-70mm f2.8 L, the result of photo is good.

And, I also planning to buy 50mm f1.4.

I would choose : -
1)Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L
2)Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L IS
Yes they are expensive, but they are good, f2.8 gives you guarantee for quality. Both of them are prestigious in the world of photography and so far there were no adverse comments in leading photographic journals both local and world wide.
Comparatively speaking, both of them had a good 'second hand' value. To me, I am of the opinion that for Canon users who don't has a 'L' lens would feel a sense of regret.

Oh, L lenses again. I'll likely be poor soon. If zooming is not important, I'll go for the 50mm f1.4.

If resale value is not important, is Sigma 100-300mm f4 a good choice? Do you think f4 is quick enough in indoor photography, eg music concerts, stage performances, graduation ceremonies? I consider this lens because it's equivalent to a 70-200mm f2.8 + 1.4x converter and it's affordable.

If I were you, I may not consider the following -

Canon 50mm f1.4
Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro

The reasons are, I guess 50mm 1.8 is already good enough + it is around $1200 cheaper. For Sigma 20mm Macro, I don't think it is tele enough for bugs and flowers. Pay few hundred more to get Sigma 105mm Macro or Tamron 90mm Macro seems a bit better.

I suggest you buy 70-200mm F4L ，due to you use 300D , it's weight is fit with it, otherwise if you buy 70-200mm F2.8L (IS or not) the main problem is the heavy weight is NOT balance with the 300D body!


Mid-range:
I have use 24-70mm F2.8L , 28-70mm F2.8L, Tamron 28-75mm F2.8, I fully suggest you buy Tamron Lens due to it's a good lens I met in the mid-range (but the F2.8 is not very good, after F4 , it's nearly same as L lens)

Thank you for opinions. I think Canon 50mm f1.8 is already good enough though it's plastic. I love the 24-70mmf 2.8 L but it's so expensive and has a low cost/performance ratio.

If I choose a 70-200mm lens, I'd choose f2.8 L. But Sigma 100-300mm f4 is a good competitor in its specifications.

Can you recommend me some web sites whih does lens performance tests?
