題目300D + Bigma(Sigma 50-500mm APO HSM)     Post time: 11 月 23 日

http://community.webshots.com/album/221027585LZXgtg

It's a great lens (also a big lens,heavy lens)
I buy this lens as I want to shot birds.
That's my current test only, no time for use in outdoor right now..later I will have a trip.

Hi!
Me too!
I bought this lens last week for my D70 and I like it immediately!!

Very solid, very sharp despite the alarming 10X zoom, fast HSM!!

See my trial with this lens:-

This is a very good review from a forieng Bigma user:-

Enjoy!

*******************************************

"Most folks would probably use this lens as an alternative to the 70-200mm or 80-200mm types from several manufacturers.

Indeed, at 50-500mm it packs quite a punch for the dollar. At under $900, its' price per millimeter is quite a bargain. But this lens is so much more than value. It's a solid built lens that anyone should consider for its' performance level.

As an owner of the 70-200 AFS-VR lens, I have always thought that the reach was "not quite there". In fact, a 200mm lens in todays' zoos which concentrate on natural eco surroundings in just barely enough to create more than a snap shot at times. You find yourself longing for that "If I could only have a little more power".

In fact, Canon's 70-300mm USM IS lens-- although funky as it is, remains a perfect example of economical engineering that when used correctly, yields great results. In that point of view, the Sigma lens performs similar to the quality of that lens elbeit without the IS function. And the Sigma is slightly sharper and far more versatile in the long run. What Nikon really needs to compete with this lens is their own 70-300mm VR version under $1000. It can be done and Canon proves this out. In the meantime, the Sigma 50-500mm gives you that kind of versatality at little more than Canon is asking for their 70-300mm IS model.

But for the core brand products at f2.8, we are left with Nikkon and Sigma in the $1000-2000 price range which in my opinion is seriously expensive for a relatively short 200mm focal length.

The Sigma 50-500mm model changes all that and creates photo opportunities that were otherwise simply impossible. The built-in motor is quick, the feel is as solid as any Nikon f2.8 lens, and the picture quality is very, very good.

One may ask, "Why the 10 to 1 zoom range"? Why not create a 100-500mm lens instead of 50-500mm?"

Serious wildlife photographers already know that time is of the essence. I just hiked this weekend up some serious elevations to photograph the historic and ancient Stampede Pass Tunnel on the old Pacific Northern railway. This is all dirt and rough going-- and having the range of 50-500mm on my shoulders at all times meant minimum lens changes (super wide angle the other lens of course). Not only did I spot both Elk and Bear on this journey, but both high elevation Alpine forest birds as well. All with a single lens. And a heavy lens at that. But seriously, the Nikkor 70-200mm AF-S VR is also very heavy.

For stationary medium distance objects such as sanctuaries, zoos and presentation sports within a given distance, the 200mm should work just fine. The serious difference is that the 50-500mm is for that photographer who finds and searches for these subjects (birds, animals-- and even people) that are not "self-posed". In that regard the extended focal length creates more fascinating candid shots and more realistic portrayals of natural wildlife.

But at what cost? What do I give away for this lens being so reasonable?

You give up some lens speed of course, as this lens is f4.0 to f6.3 bumper to bumper. In early and late daylight, that is plenty of glass speed. You may miss f2.8 for high-speed action shooting or in moderate lit rooms-- or for that extra stop or two of creating a shallower depth of field. Both of those can easily be accomplished with this lens however and you'd be surprised how well this lens does shoot action. Both handheld and tripod mounted. In fact, it's easy to shoot full focal length 500mm at 1/200 with a good grip. For 200mm, VR is helpful, but certainly not a prerequisite.

As a bonus, the Sigma lens is much quieter and faster than the non AF-S 80-200mm Nikkor model, and closer (but not quite) as fast in focus at the 80-200 Nikkor AF-S or 70-200 Nikkor AF-S VR.

At all apertures and focal lengths, this lens shoots great pictures. At f6.3 to f8.0 at any focal length, the Sigma is downright superb. At the focal length extremes, there is just a suggestion of softness (not much) but that is also true with the Nikkor 80-200mm for all versions. The 10-15% real world improvement with the Nikkor 70-200mm AF-S VR comes at a great extra cost. Your option would be the larger primes of course which perform extremely well and should. But even those options will not give you the photographic creativity and reach (especially outdoors), that the Sigma 50-500mm will give you.

The Zoom belt is well positioned but tough to dial in at the extremes at first glance. After a while, you'll get use to the touch of it and it works like a charm. The lock feature prevents zoom creeping-- even though I did not experience this at all. Inner focusing maintains the outer lens and does not rotate. Great for filters of course. But be prepared for a long, long lens at 500mm. And the 86mm filter thread means expensive hard to find add-ons. It comes with a nice hood and it works well. The included padded case is well made and smaller than that of the big Nikkor.

Many photos in this preview were shot directly towards the sun during 8:30 PM sundown. No flare and the exposure was warm and heavy shadowed as it should be. Each photo has the focal length printed on it for reference.

Conclusion? Magnificent achievement. Even at $1500, this would be a reasonable price to pay for this well featured lens. But at under $900, it has earned a permanent place in my kit for images that the 70-200mm lenses simply cannot approach for creativity that will take you to new places you have yet to photograph."

I didn't use it on monopod or tripod, because it is not very mobile with a monpod or a tripod.

It is heavy but since I am used to my 70-200vr, which is about 3lb, adding one more lb is not a problem. It also helps to train up our muscles.

Got to go now to take some more Bigma shots!!

It definitly gives you more than what you pay for it!!

Happy shooting!

The strap comes with the package. Go and the retailer for it.

I am also a beginner... Hee! Hee!

If you are using a monopod, left 手掌向下 to press and stabilze the lens. If you are hand-holding the lens left手掌向上, of cos.

I do not use the strapping, I hold the build-in handle and I find it very convenient.
Ask the retailer for the strapping if you want it.
