I bought a 2nd hand 550EX after considering EF-500DG. 550EX is better for :
1. Horizontal 5 focus points linked to camera. Sigma only link to centre focus point. 580EX links to all 7 focus point in 300D.
2. Built for 550EX is better but much bigger than sigma.
3. Wireless flash can be both master and slave. Sigma can only be slave.
4. GN55 VS Sigma GN50 is little bit higher and hence recharge is longer for canon 550EX.
5. Sigma (HK$1700) is much cheaper than 550EX (HK$2500).
I would recommend 550EX for its compatibility and built.

但有人話canon 550ex 有時會爆晒光喎，影到個人塊面白雪雪。

I tried many times and haven't had any of this problems so far. The E-TTL in 300D works perfectly but the flash diffuser needs to be always "ON" so as to widen the flash coverage.
Also, I can set the flash expsoure compensation right at the flash so as to avoid any under or over flash exposure.
It is a matter of skill that flash photgraphy needs more skills for perfect shots.

更係唔一樣啦,除左Links 7點對焦外,580EX係針對CCD反光影響ETTL測光準確度加以改良,配合ETTL-II效果比550EX準確,咁當然一定比EF-500 DG Super 準啦,係一支真正既數碼燈,而550EX係跟EOS1V/ EOS3 film機出既,當時冇預數碼機用,Nikon都出過支 i-TTL 新燈啦.
