i have seen some Zeiss 50mm photos on another topic here (Zeiss or Leica). They are even more crazy to go for the Leica.

You need a Leica R to EOS mount to use this lens. You are right that all Zesis and Leica lens mounted on EOS will have MF only.

For price ... just very expensive la. :)

Actually, the mount is not very expensive - from HK$500 to HK$1,100, I was saying the lens is very expensive. :)

expensive = ???$ (this term varies to people)
For example, to me... more than $5000- a lens is expensive, more than 8000- is very expensive...
but for some other people below $10,000- is cheap, over $10,000 is reasonable.... haha..... like you?

And, the importance is how difference is the picture quality between Leica and Zeiss????
If it the picture from Leica really outstands from Zeiss, it will be a crime not to own one.

If a lens is not of the same brand as your camera, you'll lose AF even you have an adaptor ring. If AF is not important, Zeiss is a very good choice. Excellent quality and not very expensive. If focusing speeding is important and you can't shoot with plenty of time, only Canon 50mm can do. For me Canon 50mm is already good enough. Very good image quality (if you are not picky). I always warn myself that a good lens does not necessarily produce good pics. It depends on how the user understands the tool and captures the scene and moment.

"Good lens does not necessarily produce good pics" - definitely agree. Honest speaking, my skills level probably can't match these very good lens, but I just addicted to the image quality of them. In fact, I never had the attitude that someone can always take good pictures with expensive equipment, however, I also see no harm to look for "better" equipment, right ?

I've Canon EF 50mm f/1.4. Indeed it is a very good lens (better than Nikon 50mm f/1.4 imo), especially consider its price. If MF is not an issue, Contax 50mm f/1.4 is definitely the winner - in fact, it costs less than Canon. However, while both lens are excellent, they are not as "impressive" as Leica 50mm. The 1st Leica 50mm I used (it was the 1st Leica lens I used as well) was the 50mm f/2 Summicron-R (a good condition 2nd hand costs less than ~4k), and I was immediately impressed with the picture quality after I used it for the 1st time. It's color is so natural and nice, which is something Japan made lens cannot give. It is difficult to say in words but the diffferences are there.

If you want to play MF with Leica, I would suggest to get the 50mm f2 Summicron-R. Its price is still affordable and I gurantee that you will not be disappointed. I'm not saying Contax is not as good, but it just didn't give me this impression and confidence.

For the 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-R I posted above, it is the version 3, i.e. newest version. I never seen it in 2nd hand market in Hong Kong. For new one, it costs over HK$10k.
