Just don't let the histogram touch the left and right border by changing the exposure setting (ie shutter speed, aperture and ISO value in manual exposure mode or +-EV in auto exposure mode)

This is a very useful tool when shooting high contrast scene such as an white egret in the shadow of a hill.

I have this in my FZ-10 but don't have it in a much expensive 350D :-(
