i think when u don't use camera, u have to put ur camera back into pocket /cover.
because there's dusty and dust / sand easy comes into ur camera / lens.
i also had this experience during india trip.

最大問題唔是沙塵.
是沙漠陽光猛烈,反差高,dc寛容度不足,容易測光失準.
影相時選反差不要太大的環境.當然dc影多幾張也沒有問題.
測光最好用spot, 只要測主體,差極都可以看到主體.

don't use underwater casing. you camera will overheat in no time. (speaking from experience with my Canon S45 and the Canon U/W case)

don't exercise moving parts (like zooming) in the wind (shield it with your body if you must do it).

generally speaking, +1 EV if the don't want your subject to be underexposure with in Auto/P/A/S mode under bright sun and reflective sand.
