Have any one known the better way to shot the night scene with or without a portrait in the subject?

- use AV or TV better?
- Must add external flash (if the background lighting is dim and the distance is more than 5 feets)
- how to properly get a shot at the neon light sign board (if used av, the brightness is strong that can not properly see the words)
- what is best shutter speed so you will not handshake the final image?

What does you used? DC or DSLR?

A dslr with 17 - 55 mm wide zoom & 55 - 200 mm tele zoom, w/o tripod, w/o external flash.

如果太陽落山30分鐘內, 對住d 雲做點測光囉.....
一般f16 iso100 30秒...曝光耐少少都冇乜所請.....

霓虹燈o既話, 如果個燈飾fill 晒成個畫面, 用佢EVALUATIVE測光就應該ok 架啦...

with subject -- flash, second curtain syn., tripod (TV 1") or 17-85 IS (TV 1/4" @18mm)

without subject -- don't flash, tripod (TV 1-2") or 17-85 IS (TV 1/4" @18mm)

If no tripod & IS lenses, what is the better way to take a shot? Or what is the longest shutter speed I could adjust and not have handshake effect on the final image?

Using 17-85 IS is considered as no tripod

Generally no longer than 1/(focal length * crop factor), but it depends, if could find a place for holding you arm, you can get it a bit longer. Personally won't take any night scene (landscape) without tripot.

which kind of Tripod is recommende?

- Big tall one tri pod?
- Mono - pod (one leg)?
- small desktop tripod?

Is it possible for the internal flash to be effective with in a focal length say 25 - 30 feet during the night with small amount of street lighting?

I don't you could AF on the object at 30 feet by int. flash, maybe be a powerful torch could help you, but at least you need a tripod to do it
