Hi there,

I'm having problem to choose a right lens for my friend's wedding. I don't know which len is best for the wedding, I'm tossing between Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 and Canon 24-105mm f/4 IS. I'm also thinking Canon 17-40 f/4 + (50mm f/1.4 or 85mm f/1.8). What do you guys suggest? Or any other combination (Sigma or Tamron or Takino)? Many Thanks!!!

Here are my equipment:
film SLR: EOS 50e
DSLR: EOS 10D + grip
Lens: 70-200 f/4
Tamron 28-200 f/3.5-4.7 (I don't think I will use it)
Other lens: budget around $10,000

終於我第一次send了相比我在PIA show中取得了e-mail address之model。 她的relpy也說我的相片也不差,終於也放下了心頭大石。
但我要多向肥笨偷師....不過我另一朋友之wedding相還未edit完>_< (almost 2 weeks la....he may be upset if I cannot finish edit those RAW files on time)
我個friend在PIA影的model相全部炒晒,我也幫忙不了 >_< ,真可惜(他用EOS 30V+EF28-105 f3.5-4.5 USM and 580/420EX)

first of all, you should have external flash in order to make things better for your friend's wedding.
you can borrow one from your friends or buy one for yourself
list for external flash:
Canon 420EX
Canon 430EX
Canon 550EX
Canon 580EX
Sigma EF500 DG Super(E0)

if you have 10K for lens main budget, you can use your EOS50e wisely by only get around 10-15 rolls of film if you just want to buy one lens only.
I will suggest EF24-105 f4L, since this lens have IS function, and it will help you with 大合照with FF advantage.Also, EF24-70 f2.8L USM is another good choice. however, no IS function may make problems if ppl do not want to use M mode.

If you have 10K budget for lens and external flash, then you can only buy one of those Sigma EX or Tamron SP lens to make the budget within the limit.

bring 70-200 f4L USM with you, it is a very good lens while in chruch function when you cannot take photos in close distance.
記住EOS 50e=大合照用, 其他場合: EOS 10D.
Please bring some spare AA batteries, BP511/512 and digital wallet with you, it will be a nice combo for taking wedding photos.
p.s. you can buy one of those modified to EF mount EF-S 18-55 f3.5-5.6 if you want totry for taking 大合照 pictures with your EOS10D

Hi darrens,

Thank you so much for your suggestion. Actually, I've got the external flash already (550EX). I don't know if I should just buy one walkaround lens (24-70 f/2.8 or 24-105 f/4) or Sigma/Tamron + prime lens. I heard that 24-105 f/4 is out of stock already and need to wait until Jan 2006 which has already passed my friend's wedding.

What do you think if I buy 17-40 f/4 + 50/1.4 ?

Besides usual family photo, I am going to take photo for a family member in a baptism. Which one of these items is more suitable?

如果影人像, i suggess you to buy 50mm f/1.4, 但如果要影全家福(多人), 就要買A09. A09在喑位focus會慢D, indoor都無乜問題.

17-40 f4L+EF50 f1.4 USM是一個不錯之選擇

至於Sigma/Tamron 2X-70之選,個人suggest Tamron 28-75.

if you are using 300D,350D and 20D, many ppl will tell you to buy EF17-85 f4-5.6 IS USM is a good deal.
但10D用17-85一定要改mount.
430EX...if the price tag suits your budget , then go ahead to get one, there is no worry to think about Canon original accessories quality.
50 f1.4 USM是一支影單人照幾好之鏡頭, 不過由於同EF85 f1.8 USM同價,
所以選50/85其中一枝都未必入錯貨。

請問你幫朋友影婚禮,係唔係主力?定係影snap及花歲?
如果係主力,我會覺得單買24-70L已經OK~再者你有FILM機~
我唔會要50/1.4,因為影婚禮,你有幾可會用F1.4???

一般主力既都會加支閃補光,F5.6就一定最保險,因為要保証個個人都"有頭有面,清清楚楚"....比你用50/1.4,都無用啦,影深太淺呀~

不過如果你係影花歲,反而小小白已經足夠,因為你唔會同主力影野個師傅企埋一齊,你可能會企到有一段距離影~

用5D影完RAW file, 居然C1 Pro不支援,由於要趕住出相,唯有用1Ds MK2的profile入替....呢鋪偷雞不成反而令自已更煩。

I should say, get CP-E3 ASAP if you are 主力,otherwise 550EX未必夠時間回電. CP-E3=around 1K@天祥 CP-E3 use 8*AA batteries.
