D200 is incredble!! it really does feel like a solid lump of metal in my hand and it fits perfectly. The picture quality is stunning, put a sharp lens on it (50 1.8@5.6 for me) and you can reesolve every 紙皮石 from distant buildings if you shoot RAW. It is far superior to my D70 resolution wise. It needs a bit of USM though to reveal the details.
one thing you have to keep in mind is focussing, 10MP will show every imperfection and unless your focus is dead on, you won't get a sharp shot. My D70 is more forgiving as a snapshot camera. Also with my 18-35, i find that i have to stop down to f/8 to get perfect sharpness, i thought the lens was sharp from wide open when i was using it with the D70 but this is obviously not the case. My 50 1.8 is basically useless wide open, just too soft and easy to miss focus, i start at f/2.8 with that lens now to get sharper pictures. You just need very good glass with the D200, otherwise you'll be wasting it.
Shooting JPEG is much better now, the AWB actually works this time for most environment and just make sure you keep sharening on camera at +2, you'll get very nice JPEGs from camera. But obviously shoot RAW if you can.
You won't regret buying a D200, unless you're looking for a simple camera to use. you can basically do anything you want with this camera but unless you know what you're doing, the D50 will be a better bet. I'd choose a D50 over a D200 for street snapshots though, for the much lighter weight and high ISO performance.( not that the D200 is bad here, the D50 is just better at high ISO, no question about that)

the viewfinder on the D200 is much better too, big enough and very clear, altough it does lack the almost crystal like quality from the D2X viewfinder, they're about the same size though and it really is good enough to compose effectively. It will look like a small peephole when you compare it with your F100 but you will get used to it. Heck, even my F80 VF looks huge compared to the D200 viewfinder, but the D200 is very nice nonetheless.
I like the D2X focus area layout more, i like shooting off center and the spread out focus points make it easier to compose. D2X focus with non AF-s lens is also much quieter and slightly faster. The centralised pattern with the D200 should be more effective when tracking sports, as there are 11 sensors in the centre to track motion, but this is just a small nitpick and i'm happy not having to pay $32K for the D2X, i can live with the focus pattern as it is now.
I've borrowed a D2X for a month and this camera really does bring back memories with that camera; solid, fast, the shutter sound is essentially identical and alhough the D2X pictures do look slightly sharper from camera at low ISO, there's really not much difference and i don't think you can tell in print. At iso >800 the D2X is useless in RAW, whereas very useable images can be had from the D200 even at hi-1.

MR. malfayu is absolutely right. It is total different in focusing subject than D70. Moreover, due to higher resolution, Many things doesnt show up D70 would be easily seen on D200. Lens is the case.

yes, prepare to be extremely unsatisfied with your lenses with the D200 unless you have either 2.8 nikkor zooms or very nice primes. I'm not happy with any of my lenses at the moment, that also includes my sigma 70-200 DG, just far too soft wide open. I guess i'll start collecting prime lenses now, only because i can't afford a complete set of pro nikons. (12-24, 28-70/17-55, 70-200VR)
