I've bought a 2nd hand 10D for several months, in my opinion, digital SLR's picture quality & sharpness is lower than film SLR.

Since I've read some web pages about the "Back Focus" problem of 10D. I check the picture take by 10D on computer in actual-size,
I found that my 10D got the "Back Focus" problem, so I take it to CWB service centre to get it fix ... ... ...

My 10D's warranty was expired, they say the check fee is $300, if the focus is need to repair, the fee is $350+, totally $650+ ... ... ...

After two days, a guy called Mr. Cheng from service centre call my mobile, he say after they've check my 10D, No Focus & other problem at all. He say that not only 10D, but 20D, 5D, 300D, 350D, 1D & 30D ... ...
many photo fans taking their DSLR to check Focus, because they didn't know that the different between Film & digital. ( Film camera is seldom enlarge the picture to check, but digital can very easily to enlarge in computer )

He ask me what kind of lens that I use for 10D : I've 17-40/4L, ATX28-80/2.8Pro, 28-105/3.5-4.5USM, 50/1.4USM, 85/1.8USM, 100/2USM & 100-300/4.5-5.6USM ... ...

Then I ask him what kind of len that they've check with my 10D, his answer is "Stand Len". I chase him to answer more clearly, what kind of Standard Len ? 50/1.4, 50/1.8 or 50/2.5Marco, he say : a special len that mount on a test jig that use to check Focus Purpose !

That's why they claimed that can't check out the "Back Focus" problem of my 10D, I've use "Normal Lens" to taking real shots and enlarge it on the computer to check. But they only use a Test Jig and taking shot with a diagram.

I ask him to use my methods : use "Normal" lens to taking shots, whatever a "L" series or common USM lens or another brand lens is OK, taking real shots, then to enlarge it to see the where the Focus is locate in the picture.

Three days after, CWB service centre call me to take back my 10D, they claimed that all things is fixed. I've check the "Back Focus" problem right away. I found that it get fix really ! ( They had only charge me the checking Fee $300 )

I believe that sometimes a cost $10K+ or $30K+ camera body, it's QC procedures had not included checking Focus by taking real shots. They only use a Test Jig to check. (Or random check )

I think no need to take your len or lens to justify the Focus, now my 10D can take very sharp shot with all my lens. If you buy another "New" lens afterwards, will you bring it to the service centre to "Cal" again ?

what did they tell you about the problem of your 10d? was it really hardware problem or did they just update the firmware and the problem was then fixed?

I don't know how they fix the "Back Focus" problem of my 10D, but in my opinion, it was a hardware problem, not the firm ware ... ... ( I've update the most update firmware version 2.0.1 )

I think if all digital cameras had fully QC check before ( included the Focus Checking ) deliver to the shops, then the "Back Focus" or "Front Focus" problem will not occur.

Someone in the web pages said that their 10D or other models can't fix the "Focus" problem, I believe that they hadn't explain the whole story to the technicians of the service centre. Please try to explain more details to them of your "Focus" problem !

Besides, Mr. Fat Chai Wong, why don't you ask your friends to buy an "IS" Lens to solve the "Focus" problem, or they already got one on hand ?

I've taking picture since Form 5 ( 1984 ), almost 22 years ! And how much experience you've got in the photography field ?

How can you explain if the fact is : now my 10D can take very sharp picture with all my lens, and before the focus is locate on the back a little bit ? Is that my body get more steady than before ?

你算是好的了，我有些朋友上維修部多次，部機依然有問題，最後氣憤之下轉System。

總有些人指那些說手上Canon相機有對焦問題是初學者，說他們是自己操作的問題，人家拍攝經驗、年資不知多過、長過他們多少，唉！
