They are 2 different cameras. in terms of size, focal length and usage. Comapring them because of price is not wise at all.

Why not choose Canon S80?
If 28mm is your first priority, S80 (in terms of image quality & costs) is better than GR-Digital.
G-7 only had 36mm wide lens. It's a 'disappointing' prosumer DC. 'I'll wait for others to post G7's image whether image quality can 'add' marks.
I also read the review of GR-D from www.dpreview.com. 'Above average' is its 'high' price can't give 'high' image quality.
