I have used 24-105 with 400D for two months. For me, the range and image quility are good for hiking, travel, .....
Also, it is not heavy.

But do you feel the 24-105 will not be wide enough for 400D, that what the other people said. How about the F4 aperture, is it large enough for daily use?

EF24-105F4 IS 係設計俾5D用的,400D用EF-S17-55 F2.8 IS比較匹配.

this is different level

24~105 is a high qunaltiy L lens

and the 17~55 is a normally lens

normally people but L lens for the best qunality

But actually the 17-55 rules over the 24-105 on all APS-C DSLR.

When you use a 24mm on a 400D, you will get 38.4mm (using the 1.6 crop factor as a multiplier). If you have no interest in shooting with wide angle or you have already have one, then the 24~105 is a good choice.
