題目Taking photos in Hokkaido?     Post time: 12 月 2 日

Hi all, I'm a newbie and I've just purchased a 400D kit. I'm planning to go to Hokkaido for a holiday over the winter. Is there anything I need to be aware of when taking pics in -10C weather?

I heard that the battery charge will run out much more quickly in freezing weather. Is there any way I can make the battery last longer?

And how can I prevent my lens from fogging up when I jump off the warm tour bus?

Thanks!

extra X2 bettary store inside your inner colths, and just make sure your camera stays out of your cloths,

since i'm useing Nikon, i don't know if canon's lens will fogging up, but my Nikon won't ; i recommand you store a reserve lens into your pocketc and hange your lens when you get in to the bus.

Last X'mas, I visited Hokkaido & takine photo outdoor for over TWO hours in a mountain with around -5 to -10°C with the following DC & DSLR, I found NO problem with the camera & the battery: 350D, Sony V1, Nikon S1, KM G600, also no problem with a Panasonic 3CCD DV. I keep the DC outside the body, after the battery dropped to a certain level, I switched battery, the DC can be used again.

I kept the DC exposed to outside temperature, because if they were keep under your cloth, they would get FOG, u can try.

Beware of taking camera while WALKING slowly, otherwise, u or you camera will kiss the lovely snow.

Hope u take many photos.

I tried using KM Z5 in a -10C East Europe. Full Batteries went out in 5 minutes. A friend using D2X experienced no problems at all. So I think D-SLR doesn't use battery so much as they don't need LCD for view finding. Have a try to see if your camera cools. If not possible, you may consider what i did.
1. Stick a "heat pack" to the camera battery position before exposing to cold weather, the hand grip might become a bit bulky
2. Take the camera out and use it, hopefully you have hand gloves so keep the "heat pack" and battery working. If you don't have hand gloves, you better consider your personal health first.
3. Enjoy!
