Hi Brothers,

I have a D200. May I ask how to use the flash for compensation on the face if I take photo under the strong sunshine condition and the face of the model is half dark half bright?......The lens is a fixed 2.8, 50mm. The reading is 2.8, 1500s.........Please help me.

Force your built-in flash to fire, it certainly will get the job done.

but the lens is a fixed 2.8 woh.....and the shutter speed reading is 1500s. If I force the built in flash to fire.....the speed will change to 1/125s right? will the picuture or the face be overexposed?.......

No body forces u to use f/2.8 even it's "fixed f/2.8" lens.

When the background is too bright, using that large aperture of coures will result in fast shutter....If u insist in getting shallow of DOF, try using ND filter.

However, my personal recommendation is ............try to take the pic at another time......

Camera is equipment is not the sole factor for a good pic. You have to take attention on the time , the position of the sun, the "Texture" of the sunshine (i.e if it's strong, directional, diffused?)

ND filter即係減光鏡.用左後可以令相同快門下用較大光圈,不過留意閃燈光力都會減弱埋.

Since you used a 50mm, there is some sort of light reflecting screen with a hole in the middle so that your lens can go through it. In this way you may get compensation to some extent.

My current problem is the face being half dark half bright woh....not all the face looks too bright.........

- Buy SB800
- use FP syn mode
- set SB 800 at TTL mode (not TTL BL)
- set white balance by k value to 4500 / 4800
- D200 use spot metering, AEL at bright side of face
- set SB 800 EV -2 for compensating dark side of face

Hi Rol. Thanks for your valuable information. No wonder I saw so many photographers took photos (outdoors) on the model girls with external flash installed at top of the camera, even though there was sunshine day. If I use the FP syn mode,

i) will the shutter speed and the apeture can keep at 1500s and 2.8?...in order to maintain the short DOF.

ii) should we put the white cap on the external flash?

iii) EV -2 should be set on camera or flash?

iv) do we have to adjust the power output of the flash?

v) In my D200, should I set the image quality to "Portrait" instead of "Vivid"?

唔好對FP syn mode有太大期望,用到1/1500s閃燈輸出會非常弱.影大頭或者有小小機會,半身應該己經唔夠力.

Depend on how you want to handle the photo :

1) without flash... Just AEL on darker side of face -> but background will over expo a lot

2) with flash.. AEL on brighter side of face + SB800 -1 EV -> blend with natural and flash light on human face and will have more 3D feeling, but background still over expo a lot

3) with flash.. AEL on background + SB800 0 EV -> human face with flash light only and face will look too flat without 3D
, however background get correct expo.. If want the face with 3D, set the flash as remote not at strike exactly at front side.
