小弟現正計劃入一枝長砲作打鳥用, 請問師兄對Sigma 50-500 及 Tamron 200-500 有什麼意見?

Before I considered these two lens too, finally I bought Sigma because I use Nikon and Sigma has HSM. Instead Tamron F mount version need to rely on AF motor at DSLR.

However if you use Can on, Tarmon should have AF mount at lens, just not sure whether it is as fast as Sigma HSM.

For Sigma 50-500,

Pro :
- 50-500 with useful zoom range for all purpose
- 50-200mm with good PQ.
- max aperture F4-6.3 is already sharp and workable F value

Con :
- 500mm is the selling point of this lens, but is the worst PQ.
- can't AF if add in 1.4/ 2x tele convertor.
- lens body will extend very long when zoom to 500mm

If you just need for bird shooting, suggest to buy prime lens.. But if for less budget and multi purpose, can consider Sigma 50-500.

Quite heavy, around 1.8 kg with tripod collar. Hand holding will tire soon. Need to use monopod. also 86mm filter is not cheap.

If need lighter weight, can consider Sigma 170-500, cheaper but without HSM

But without HSM, would it be too slow, especially for flying birds?

The AF speed of Sigma HSM on D200 is fast enough for catching flying bird. Just F6.3 at 500mm is too small, sometime force to use over ISO800 to maintain 1/1000 sec and freezing the bird motion. My D200 noise is quite serious over ISO800 and affect the sharpness / detail of photo. But buying prime 500/600mm F4 is crazy price tag I can not afford.

Sorry I missed your meaning.

If without HSM, at Nikon DSLR AF is slow and hard to shoot flying bird.

I am not sure how it work on Can on, but suppose HSM is faster than without HSM.

我有Tamron 200-500,對焦真係超慢.用連續對焦好多時會因為對唔切一路唔俾按快門,飛緊既鳥唔係唔得,但係要飛得好直線好慢既.好處係幾輕便,同70-200 f2.8差唔多.

有沒有考慮過 Sigma 120-300 F2.8 + 2X teleconverter? 最長 600mm F5.6

sigma支50-500夾kenko可以AF
有hsm對焦快好多, 比冇hsm好用好多

用到咁長焦距，角度窄左，會唔會在觀景器搵成日都搵唔到隻雀？
