I bought a Sigma 18 - 50 but the lens experience serious back focus, went to the shop the second day and the other lens they showed me got a bubble in it and they dont have the third lens. Because I had to travel overseas I place the lens home and missed the 7 day replacement period. I plan to take to lens to Sigma for a lens tuning/replacement.

With this back focus lens, image was never sharp in marco nor in normal portrait shots. Hope I can get the lens fixed when I am back to Hong Kong.

And, if you are looking for a wide lens, a 17mm lens does make a difference when you really want a wide shot~~

chris kts, are you suggesting Tamron A16 is better base on it's 17mm?

Yes if wide angle is really what you are looking for. don't omitt this mere 1 mm, the different is there, expecially if you think 18 mm is not wide enough~~

I am aware there is a 16 - 50 but I am not sure its price and optical performance. http://www.dcview.com/article/newreadarticle.asp?id=5238

On the other hand, I was just unfortunately enough to have a back focus lens - think this is a particular case :)

Oh on the other hand, the abaility to focus on close subjects is a plus to the Sigma 18 - 50, though it is NOT truely a MARCO lens design (despite the aperture, a true MARCO lens has a different lens design to normal lens).

So you have to judge what is important to you and make the choice~~
