No matter how good the performance of diamond it is too expensive to be the material for lens construction.

From technical point of view, diamond is the hardest material in the world and to grind it to form a len shape it is already very difficult. You will also wasted a lot of diamond when you grind it to shape.

And you will be very difficult to find a natural diamond big enough to built a len.

You can see how expensive the 'normal' large apeture lens are so expensive now, if (suppose diamond is go for light transmission) they use diamond I think not many people can afford to buy them.

It is not commerically possible.

Still the cost problem and I think there are so many cheaper alternative for them to choose.

You can name it UD, super UD, Cafu, diffraction etc etc. why bother to expore an expensive option.
