I think D40 is good for you:

1) jpg output better than D50

2) noise control better than D50

3)The size smaller than D50 (if you like small size)

but no motor in the body (I dont think is problem for 初級者)

If seriously at photography, beginner soon or later will have advance need. so I suggest to buy a better body for longer use.

How many people here can resist and did not upgrade lens and body within two years ?

D40 +18-55 kit lens $4080
D80 +18-55 lens $7000
many people will think about the range
just depend on people "Budget"

其實睇睇 nikon 已經慢慢 fadeout d無 motor 鏡.
到你玩到要加新鏡可能大部份鏡已經係AF-S.

If just talking PQ, AF 35 F2 is better than AFS 17-35 2.8

35 F2 + D50 is better than 17-35 + D40

Any way lens is cruical factor for PQ.

How many beginner can accept "MF" with prime lens ?

Or How many beginner can afford AFS 17-35 2.8 with D40 ?
