I think you may have turned your AoutoFoucs on accidentally. There are 2 ways to remedy:
1. Press menu when u r on video shooting mode. Change scroll left and change it back to basic mode, everything it auto.
2. If you prefer expert mode, scroll up n down til you find AF-S, then put it on.

Other than the 2, I would press the top panel left button, to change it to"little mountain" mode so to avoid the camera from auto-focusing search every 5 secs.

In addition u can put on the digital zoom mode so that you can zoom when taking video. Digital zoom is a gd thing in taking video though it s useless in taking picture.

at top of yr lcd, below the "time remained for video", what is it? is it nothing, 'sml mountain' or MF? don't panic
Worst you can bring back and exchange even it s a 'water' one.
I hv been playing with mine for a few weeks . it s ok
