Originally I was going to buy 400d with kit lens/Tamron A16 + Sigma 70-300 macro/tamron55-200mm 4-5.6f

Now if I buy the 17-85mm IS kit lens I will not be able to buy anything else.

Any comments?

I think kit lens is ok ar,u can have a first try~ then u will know with lens is suitable for u

I think I will stick with the original kit lens, some ppl said EF 17-85mm IS 紫邊好嚴重, except the IS, the quality is just similar to the 17-55mm kit lens.

You are right the 17-85 IS is not very good compare with its price, for $4000 you have much better choice. As you know the quality is similar to 17-55 kit len but just with IS and a bit longer range.

17-40 4.0 L only $5250.

You may go for Tamron 17-50 f2.8 only for $2700-2800, I don't have it but lot of people said it is good and also good comments from some len test site.
