I have 24-105 and find it very good but it is only f4 with IS and longer range.

24-70 with f 2.8 without IS and range shorter and heavy.

For me I brought the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 too which costs me $2850 with a similar image quality (you can find the len test in the above site as well but in Nikon mount) like the 24-70 but cheaper and lighter (very important to me).

When I need 2.8 I will take the Tamron and when I need IS I will take 24-105 (~645g) originally I would like to buy the 24-70 as well for the larger apeture but the weight is a big concern to me so I finally buy the Tamron so far so good.
