If you are using Nikon DC than buy CP 5700. However if you don't mind to buy all new accessories, then you have to consider the followings:

1) what you need?
- Sony F-717 is very strong is night shot, even in a absolute darkness place. Also the picture quality from Zeiss Lens is wonderful (please compare with www.dpreview.com Sony F-717's depth review). Long battery life is anotehr selling point. , zooming/ facusing ring.
-Nikon CP-5700 has 8x Zoom. Nikon top class ED Lens (but not as good as Sony's Zeiss from the test in www.dpreview.com) Good feeling in handle, TTL flash support.

2) what you really need?
- Although Sony's night shot is very powerful, however do you really need?
-Nikon's 8x Zoom is very attractive, but if you use the maxium zoom without tripod , you are very difficult to prevent a shake image.

3) Disadvantage
-Sony: MS size is not large enough, and expensive; no TTl flash support; heavy, and big in size.
-Nikon: worest picture when compare with Sony F-717; no zooming/ facusing ring.

In my own experience. I bought F-717 rather than CP 5700, because i have another Sony CyberShot as well. If I bought Sony F-717, than I didn't have to spend $ on buying extra MS and Battery. Since I bought this DC, I love it very much. The picture quality is excellent. I have tried my friend's CP5700 as well, the overall performance is quite good as well. however when I compare the picture quality with my F-717, I found Sony F-717 is little bit better than nikon CP5700 (just little bit).

Anyway, buy what you really need, but never on the brand!

我對 Dpreview 呢兩部機既測試結果一直有所懷疑，所以只係睇過就算，反而於 dpreview forum 上有幾位買齊呢兩部機既用家評價，個人覺得比較中肯同合理。

另外，如果你因為支 Zeiss 鏡而選購 F717，請比較一下以下兩部機：

1）Zeiss 期下 Contax 所出既 Contax TVS Digital，呢部可以話係半傻瓜數碼機，但鏡頭標明用 《Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T＊ 六組六片非球面鏡頭》，訂價接近一萬。

2）Sony F717，Sony 數碼機於市場上訂價一向偏貴，但仍可以以六至七千元買得 Zeiss 鏡頭？相信真係超優惠價。

p.s. Sony 從來冇標明所用鏡頭為 Zeiss 咩型號鏡，如果因喜歡 F717 整體組合而買 F717 當然好合理，但如果因為支 Zeiss 鏡而選 F717，還請再考慮一下。

呢個真係好敏感既話題, 小弟從未在此谷談論相關題目, 因為必定會引起一方的不快, 但仍如鯁在喉, 亦有好友催促, 姑且談談。

首先指出, 選購這兩台相機的其中一台, 你都不會後悔, 若你看表面的規格適合你的話, 即管去馬吧, 這兩台確是DC界中的頂級產品之一, 無謂聽信非專業人士的意見, 況且網上一向存在異像, 具專業知識者往往不屑發表意見, 回應者往往是一知半解之徒, 例如「我都用緊」, 「此機鏡頭質素高」只是主觀之言, 未有足夠論據支持, 亦有人指出參看消委會那份非常片面和不專業的報告, 稍懂光學市場的用家卻嗤之以鼻。

回到正題, 卡爾蔡司的名字確是如雷貫耳, 但是, 你相信八千港元的價目能夠買得到配備蔡司f2大光圈, 五倍光學變焦, 且有半專業級功能的數碼相機嗎? 我可以肯定的告訴你, 不可能! 以索尼公司一向的偏高定價策略, 卡爾蔡司的稀少產量和高昂售價, 這是絕對不會在商業社會發生的, 世上那會有便宜的午餐?

索尼公司從來沒有就其數碼相機配備的卡爾蔡司對用家的查詢作出回應, 亦從來沒有道出其產地, 甚至其廣告之中亦從未以卡爾蔡司鏡頭作為招?, 只是非常「低調」地用上卡爾蔡司慣用的字體, 印在鏡頭的前端, 亦沒有一如慣例, 在相同的位置印上原產地。市場學有句很難聽的說話: 「消費者都是不理性和無知的」, 向新手說蔡司鏡頭好的人, 也可算是墮入市場學圈套的「無知」者, 只是由前輩口中得知蔡司是光學界巨人, 就主觀地說數千元只具蔡司名字的消費級相機也是高質的, 這正正符合市場學的策略, 由消費者的口中說出生產商本來也想說的慌言, 但生產商本身就無須負上不實報導的責任。

話雖如此, 我可以保證, 索尼的數碼相機也屬高質素行列, 只是售價偏高, 同樣的價錢在市場上可以找到更好的產品。

I am quite agree with your point, however.... let me share a bit my point of view on Sony's Carl Zeiss Lens.... (I am not rying to argue with you ok?!)

Prehaps you are right, it's lens isn't really from Zeiss, but I believe Zeiss will not allow any manufactory to demage it market image, right?! Furthermore, has high grading performace of F-717 in the market has been proved. So even the Lens isn't really from Zeiss, but it is a good lens. (same the the case of CP-5700's ED Lens, it won't be the top class of Nikkor ED lens).

I tell people buy what they need, but not the brand, this is including the Lens. Panasonic also using Lecia, but I don't believe this is a top class Lecia lens, and even questioning does Lecia really made it or Panasonic made it. I think this is the same case from Sony's Carl Zeiss.

Once again, I just share my point of view here. And I say the picture quality from F-717 is great is my own feeling. I think everyone has the own interesting. I like the performance from F-717, so I bought.

Please notice that I have no problem with you, I focus on the matter only!

I don't know 717, but I had owned a 707 before I got 5700.

My complaint about 707:

707 is over sharpened and color "is always" wrong, output picture no 3D feel, especially landscape.

Also, the flash systems no matter internal or external, are totally rubbish.

WB selection is too limited.

Only can operate with both hands, can't operate with one hand only: bad ergonomics.

The last: Memory stick, I don't know what is in Sony's mind, IF they can do better in Memory stick (price, speed and size), then much more people will choose Sony products. You can't imagine how many people in the world not buying Sony products because of Memory Stick.

Good thing about 707:

But 707 outdoor portrait is quite good, same level as e10 and 5700.

AF system is a bit faster than 5700.

F2.0 is bigger than F2.8, but not much.

ISO 400 noise is the same as 5700.

In manuel foucs mode, you can only use button to zoom.

SONY 係用vario-sonnar的..(當然係變焦o個o的機啦)
不過...sony dc咁o既價錢，再加上sony一向都係高利潤...
我都認為支鏡未必真係好似一般蔡司鏡咁好...
