I am a new user of DSLR. Can anyone give me some advice on the following.
1. Taking photo by 400D indoors, when checking the histogram, nearly all photos are underexposed by 2/3 to 1 EV. Is it normal?
2. Regarding the built-in flash, when using DC F10, flash is taken at 1/100 second and the exposure is OK. Under the same situation, when using 400D with 50mm at f1.8, the AV mode requests 1/10 second. Why?

I use 400D either, but I don't have underexposed problem. Have you check the exposure control especially metering modes? Try different mode and see if there is any difference. The choice of the object is also important, don't select high contrast when you test.
When you use Av mode, you have to activate the flash manual. In green zone, everything is automatic. In programme mode, you need do something manual.

I will try different metering mode tonight. However, I always focus object with high contrast. I just think that it's easier for the camera to focus. Right?
Regarding the flash, I know I need to activate it manually. I doubt that the output of built-in flash is so week that I cannot stick to ISO 100 at night for proper exposure on an object just 2-3 metre away...... very disappointing.

I checked with Canon HK by sending some photos to them. They said the exposure is OK.
But from the histogram, most are behind mid exposure level and nothing touch the 1/5 of ceiling level. The outcome is "white" becomes "light grey".
Is it really OK? Anyone can share your experience?

there are some point you have to know

1> 50mm f1.8 is not surport ettl-ii so if you use this lens you better
please the fe-lock the buttom like a star sign and also please target the lens of the middle to the item that you want to flash and photo after than you can press the fe-lock to check the flash power to flash

2> what aperture you set ??

Thank you for your advices.
For built-in flash, I found that shooting in P mode is more predictable and reliable. To me, the less experienced, shooting in TV or AV mode with built-in flash seems to be unreliable.
As I only shoot indoor photos, f1.8 - f2.8 are most used.
