Canon S45 is very good, Metallic body with lens cover, good photo quality, 3min video with sound, with manual functions, with spot light focus in dark environment... Only disadvantages is a little bit too heavy!
If you want a smaller and lighter DC, you can choose Canon V3. Functions similar to S45 except 2x zoom and some manual functions missing.
Of course, Canon G3 is the best!

It is hard to choose from these two camera, i think 4300 is a better choice for a newcomer.
