I think there is a war between CP5700 Fans and F717 Fans coming.

Let's not talking about which one is better first (actually there is not definate answer for you). I think you have to know what are the differences between these 2 models.

I don't have much experence on Nikon CP5700, so I can't tell my much for this model. you can ask oldpear (be ware of his command on Sony DC).

For Sony F717, it is strong in night shot (especially in a absolute darkness place). However, if you use it for night view, you may not need that function.

I am a F717 user, I found that the white balance is not very acurate. Sometimes I need to do it servial times to get the match setting. many people say that the picture from F717 usually has over sharp color, but for myself, I don't think this is a problem at all, it is really depending on what you want (you may look at my photos).

Finally, before you buy your dc, you have to know what you need, don't just look at the brandname and the functions. For example, Nikon CP5700 has 8x zoom, but do you really need that zoom range? Sony F717 has night shot function, but you may never use it. So buy what you really need, and don't just listen to others command (including myself).

Nikon is really very clever in marketing. LIke the war between D60 and D100, I think Nikon has been won in terms of sales volume.
