Hi there,
I am planning to buy two or three lenses for my new Canon 10D in advance (not yet purchased the 10D body, still saving money >_<)
So, I probably will use a 50mm lens and a marco lens for copywork and model shooting (taking pictures of my drawings and small building model); and the standard wide zoom lens for my daily use.
Could any of you tell me which one of following lenses is better for my situation (or any suggestion of other lenses)

I have looking for:

For Standard 50mm lens:
- Canon EF50mm F1.8 II and EF50mm F1.4 USM (which one is better ar?)

For Standard zoom lens:
- Canon EF 24-85mm f/3.5/4.5 USM and EF 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM (for me (beginner), I can hardly tell the different between these two lenses.)

For the Macro and wide angle, I have been looking for these two lenses:
- Canon EF50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro
- Canon EF17-40 f/4.0L USM

Do any of you have better recommendation for upper lenses or any other suggestion??? Please help, even I still have no money to buy it, but I really want to know bcos I am kind of lost now >_<"

Well, you knew the answer already!!
I personally suggest:
EF 50/2.5 macro +
EF 17-40/4 !!
Mind you 10D not only use EF lenses, but also compatible to nikon ais lenses(manual control but auto exposure possible) and leica R too.
Some used nikon Ais lenses are cheap and high quality!!

要睇你有冇錢喎...

50mm 兩支鏡, 1.8 賣 五百幾, 1.4 高半級的賣二千五百幾, 當然, 1.4 那支質素好d, 如果你經常用佢, 又有錢, 就1.4啦. (這兩支鏡有冇usm, 對它對焦的速度沒有太明顯的影响)

24-85 mm 比28-135 那支wide 少少, 用在10d都係會一d 都唔wide, 在外國網站有用家指 24-85 的變形比後者較嚴重, 比我會用28-135.

17-40 是10d 必備, 因為乘左1.6 後, 會變為27mm, 咁先有少少wide.....

不過最後兩點: 第一, 買10d 想清楚先, 第二, 最好唔好一次過買咁多鏡, 最好買一支先, 看看日後的需要再買, 鏡頭的二手市場比較多, 放鏡唔難.

人像…50mm f/1.4 USM
wide…17-40mm L f/4 USM or 20-35mm f/3.5-5.6 USM (經濟用)
中段…28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
marco…100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
長焦…70-200mm L f/4 USM

上述鏡頭在性能正常的 10D 試過能準確對焦。

Sorry for replying so late, I just arrived HK two days ago >_<. I got to thanks all for your precious suggestions, I really appreciated.

After reviewing all above, I decided to buy the 50mm F1.8 II, 17-40mm L f/4 USM, 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro and 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. But I won't buy all at once bcos I got NO money, so I probably will get the
17-40mm L f/4 USM and 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro frist (but still saving money). But I think these two lenses still gonna cost me an arm and a leg... Hmm...may be two arms and two legs. >_<
Anyway, do any of you know the price of the 100mm marcro lens? (I really got to find a part time job now...)

By the way, I went to shop@fever yesterday and found that they had a 10D for try; also, the newest 17-40mm L is attached on the camera.... ( I was so excited when I was holding the camera, that felt so damn good ^_^)

They said they are setting HK$11700 for the body and HK$5300 for the 17-40mm, I think that's a reasonable pretty price, right?

還有, 如果你想買的是10d, 就要有 50 f1.8啦, 因為10d 一定要用大光圈來測試失焦問題的, 比得起萬幾二萬, 花多五六百唔算係咩啦.

I am just kinda wondering that is there any difference between 行貨或水貨? I knew they have prince differnece ( but don't know how much >_< ); besides, how about there quality?

Yeah, you are definitely right, I think I should get the 50mm first. Do u have suggestion about where can I get lens from? I mean which store do u think is reliable?
