my boy, I'm afraid you're talking about the `Depth of Field'.
thats a big topic in photographic field, simply to say, people belive that :
1. larger aperture setting got less depth of field
2. longer focal length lens got less depth of field
3. but, how about the DISTANCE ? Ha! try to find it out from the library, its not hard to learn.
