Once again,

D800 is a specialty camera designed for studio or landscape photography. Not everybody need that HUGE MP. With that HUGE file size, this mean most people need to upgrade the card, computer, ram, HDD, backup drive .... In order to have a smooth workflow at the moment. Maybe with the progress of technology, this is not an issue a year later, but this is expensive at the moment.

For my need as a wedding & portrait photog. My choice will be D700. As the high ISO performance is much better, much faster for location shoot.

It seems D800 use the same focusing system as D4 and it supposes should has the improvement accordingly.

According to another C-Hing "提升, 測光, 對焦, WB係準同快左, 方便好多,高 ISO NOISE CONTROL縮番去D700個象素絕對好過D700". What's your view? Tks.

我前2天把D7000放了,然後入了D700在此刻不會考慮D伯伯原因除了$$外,還要update 其他配套,更何况我不須拍片ｏ
因為D700有一定重量,如加上 AFS 24-70G 我怕會百上加斤。所以會用輕量的鏡如24-120 F4或龍仔支新24-70代替,各位C-Hing 有無其他建議?

Hi dwkw333,

My background, I am using D700 & D3s before the new gen comes out.

I have already retired the D700 and using D3s & D4 as a parallel platform for weddings.

There is a HUGE improvement on the focusing speed and accuracy, especially in low light environment.

I usually don't go over ISO1600, and I see no visual difference between D700, D3s & D4.

btw, back to my previous point about D800 being a specialty camera design and build for Studio, Commercial & Landscape (day time) work.

I guess all users should think clearly before they buy into D700 & D800.

If you are a outdoor person, D700 is still the choice of LOTS of wedding photog in the industry. This is true that D800 is good, but not a camera for everyone.

Who need to print a photo in that size? D700 can handle any prints almost up to 2 meter without any issue.

I need two camera bodies at the same time. So I can run two platform in the wedding, so one of each side with two difference lenses, say 24-70 2.8, and then 70-200 2.8

I hate and wont have time to change lens at jobs.

I upgrade from D700 to D4, originally, I have same idea as yours..... Take movie. After trial for 1 month, maybe I share some experience for your reference:

Using DSLR to take movie is not a easy job as I though, actually, quite complicate. Videos taken by J1 is much better than that from D4. Certainly, video from D4 have better "電影感" since the CMOS is much larger.

At the begining, I use 24/85. It is a good lense, it got 70~80% quality of 24/70 but at 30% price. When I take movie with it, big problem..... very noisy due to mechanical focusing.

I purchased a 24/70 and I expect the situation will be improved. Certainly, noise reduced with SWM, But for outdoor situation only. When u take movie in a relatively silent place, there still noise from the 24/70 during focusing.

I think the problem is.... we should not use auto focus for video. We should learn to use manul focus or buy the big mic.U may observe those photographer in wedding project, they use 50mm or 85mm with manual focusing.

Some more problems, when u zoom, the camera roll due to rotation of zoom ring. Besides, it is very complicate to carry out zoom and manual focusing concurrently.

My suggestion as followed:
D800 + 24/70 2.8-4 + Nikon J1 for video

If you are a Nikon Fans, you will understand Nikon-Photo have its colour tone. Nikon J1 also have it. I feel comfort with Nikon J1, from price, video quality, easy-of-use, etc.
