if you are looking at getting one of these, d40, d40x, d60

I would suggest getting the d40 kit would be the best choice.

basically they are all the same apart from the pixels.
I think you can still get the d40 kit new and save the money on another lens.

the 18-55mm EDII (d40 kit lens) and the 18-55mm VR (d60 kit lens) is just about the same. of'cos VR is better to have but the non-VR is smaller and lighter with the same optical quality.

I think the kit package of both d40 and D60 are the same apart from the kit lens, they use the same batteries and handgrip

I would suggest to get D40X Kit instead of D40 Kit. As a beginning, the kit lens is quite OK (16mm - 55mm).

Buy extra lens depending on your own preference. But as a beginning, I would not suggest you to add lens at the very beginning. Go for kit set, play for a while to see whether what further you want, wider or zoom. At that time, you will know what lens you need. ^_^

if you have not got any history with a particular brand, like you do not have any old lenses from any of them, consider the Sony ones as well.

Their in body stabilizer is sth that nikon and canon don't have.
