小弟想試玩DSLR, 因為朋友通常都係玩Nikon, 所以目前選定二手既D80先試玩, 會再買一支A16練一下技術. 希望各位C hing分享下買二手D80應該注意既地方, 譬如機件最容易出問題係邊度或者驗收通過有咩地方要注意架? 感謝!

Get the D40 kit (can still get them from new)

learn and get comfortable with them then start thinking about what to get next, SAVE YOURSELF SOME MONEY for later (when you need/want to get some expensive lens(es) )

I agree that you should get a less expensive camera set to start with. I recommend D60 kit. In fact, it is very good. It will satisfy most of your needs until you become an advanced user.

本人都係從二手D80玩起. 當然行貨齊單, 保用証是最重要. 由外壳看起不可以有碰撞過蹟象. 先看對焦是否有走焦. 影幾張從成象細看是否有共通黑/白點, 有的話CCD可能有問題. 順便看LCD是否有死點. D80成象一般偏暗, 試吓個白平衡+1成象是否理想(如果你在室內地方交收. Shutter count亦是重要考慮, 最好不過10,000. 如果要查證, 可以先上opanda.com download左個軟件, 叫賣家send張相給妳, 用此軟件讀取shutter count.

老實說, 二手D80都係$3600左右, 不要考慮D40啦, 雖然D40平$1000左右, 但D40再放出是不值錢的. 功能上D80始終是進階機, 我都覺得十分容易掌握, 而且用慣了較易學習高階機的運用. A16是不錯的標準鏡, 已經好好使.

Tamron A16 need to check carefully the auto focus accuracy. I have tested 3 new lens for my friend today, and found all of them are failed. Finally, changed to D90 Kit.

it's not that I totally disagree with gwu1 ching, (beware that I own a D40, so I can be abit bias...)

D40 vs D60 (both kit set)

Yes and Great, D60 has active D-lighting, like the D90, D300 and D3.
Therefore the D60 is abit more expensive than the D40 (or Nikon just needed a newer model fill that price range for marketing reasons....)

for the 18-55mm range, VR (both the D40 and D60 lenses are the same, but the D60 one has VR, the ED lens, according to nikon themselves, the optical performance are the same, with or with it) doest make much of a difference (especially if you're to train yourself to have a pair of steadier hands)

D60 has more pixels (almost double) than the D40, on the same sensor (in terms of size), for a beginner and if one doesnt know what cropping is, it's meaningless.
By putting in more pixels (in a sensor with the same size as the D40), they are smaller and therefore less light sensitive. with both being entry level DSLR, the D60 needs the ISO 100 to get on par (in terms of noise) to the D40 default ISO 200 (that means for the same picture+conditions, you need a slower shutter on the same aperture with the D60)
(maybe there's a reason the D60 kit lens comes with VR....)

When a beginner understands more about lighting control, one will appreciate more what flash sync is about.
D40 max flash sync speed is 1/500 sec
D60's is 1/200 sec

For the rest, they are almost identical, to me anyway.

comparing D80 and D40 is not easy, like ching mentioned, D80始終是進階機; but only to a certain extent.

When the D80 came out some years ago, it was almost like the D200 in a smaller and lighter plastic body. The D80 has the same sensor as the D200 and the same image quality (very good at the time)

But you've got to ask yourself this, how often do you'll print large (as big as almost A3 size with you photo)?

if you do, D80 will be better for your needs over the D40.
but if you dont, and if money matters, I think a new D40 kit is still the best for a beginner to learn.

consider this. you might get a better and more advance body in due course for more serious photography.
To me, when you go on for holiday, weight really matters.
Keep that lighter D40 with you for holidays, you can FEEL the difference.

But to set the record straight:

D80 has built in motor for AF over the D40, D40x and D60
(which can be crucial if you want to use older AF lenses (non AFI and AFS)

With the same lens, the D80 is better under low light conditions over the D40

D80 has more advanced flash control (when you use remote flash)
yet the D40's faster flash sync speed is great for a entry level DSLR (the built in flash is good for most of the time while you really need an external flash with the D80, but you'll have more control over that setup, like a SB-600 for instance) however, once you are into this hobby, you'll know how much these flashes might cost you... so beware

I dunno that much about D80 but again, I hope this helps (those sales ppl in the shops always wanted to sell you sth more than your needs)

I have both the 18-55II & 18-55VR, I can use the 18-55VR to shoot the victory harbour night scene at 1/6 sec @ 55mm @ ISO800 TO GIVE SHARP PICTURE without any tripod

BUT cannot use the 18-55II to do the same thing, CAN YOU?

WHO SAID "VR doesn't make much a difference"?

and to your question, I CAN'T =p

I missed out saying for both of the lens, VR doesnt make much a difference under good light.
