in that case 小黑3 (that's the AF-D version right?) can be a good choice, on the d300 will be like 140-300 F2.8, good for head shots.

if you find most of the animals you want to shot at are from the Zoo, I would imagine you wouldnt need anything longer than that.

80-200mm 有f2.8大光圈影人物散景效果比70-300mm好好多.

70-300mm雖然有VR防震但係的在較暗環景下會好難揮得好。
不過支鏡會比小黑三對焦快D.

the first 2 photos have very narrow depth of field, but for the 1st photo, why cut the boys legs?
from the color of the last photo, your camera should be a D70/D70s set to VIVID mode, a mode not quite suitable for taking portrait, can you post the EXIF data?

最尾張係日光下拍冇修改過.

PS 雖然好用，不過做好前期拍攝先係最重要。

anyway, back to photography:

I will tell my students
1. NOT to use VIVID mode to shoot portrait, because the highlight (e.g. the light on the boy's head & the hand) of Nikon can easily turn into dead white (so call "highlight clipping")
2. Don't use PS whenever you can do it with the camera

to solve the highlight clipping on portrait:
1. switch to Canon / S3pro / S5pro
OR if you prefer NIKON
2. don't use VIVID
OR if you prefer RAW
3. use Japanese's SILKYPIX Developer Studio
which can give very very soft skin on portrait

影相係個人喜好有時會用鮮艷mode 有時會用正常mode.

不過Raw flie 我平時係唔影既，jpg以足夠了.

BUT all my students dislike & avoid "highlight clipping" after I taught them to notice this.

HIGHLIGHT CLIPPING also exist in positive film such as Kodachrome (which has a smaller dynamic range), but not so series in C41
