I don't think so la. But if any FX user did that, I really wanna know the reason as well..

I know a few pro here in Australia they are mainly using FX body. But when they need the tele end, they will move to D300 for that 1.5x advantage. But they are having FX and DX body at the same time. Not a down grade.

If people (myself included) want to have the 1.5x, can they simply choose that option on the FX camera, rather than using a D300? Unless the PQ of using that option is not as good as D300's?

I think it comes down to how you look at the issue. I like the fact that my D700 and D3s comes with the convenience of DX mode. But unfortunately we are losing some MP by using that DX mode on FX body (actually quite a significant amount of MP I should say).

I am not into tele photo so this is not my issue. But I guess it could be one of the reason why some other people rather go straight to D300 for the tele if they have two bodies.

It's undoubtable that FX has a much better PQ in terms of dynamic range and high ISO capacity.

don't know it's the truth or not. I saw a few people selling D700 (on eBay) because of the weight or the expensive of FF lens.

Because experience users know what they want. So there's no point for a replacement upgrade.

But I saw a lot of people selling other systems and migrating to D700 packages. One of my friend mentioned it just one Sunday ago. (Selling his 50D with lenses and flash set)

Ed-Ca bro, I guess a experienced user or a pro will understand exactly what they need as mentioned by Snoopybee Bro. The weight issue will not be a problem as D700 is about the same size and weight of a D300?

On the other hand I think the D700 is a pretty good size and weight when I don't wanna carry the D3s in some days. Also when I go travel, my wife usually use my D700 and I am on the D3s and she never complain about the weight as well.


I guess for those who sell off D700 based on weight or the price of FF lens is those who "play equipment". That's why they don't even know what exactly they need before they buy a top of the range body. After using a while they understand it may takes another HK$10k for a lens in order to show the real ability on a FF body. And then it's the time for those "play equipment" people to find a good reason for themself to get rid of such a great camera.

點 解 叫 upgrade down grade ? 係 咪 貴 左 所 以 叫 up grade , 平 左 就 叫 down grade ? 咁 D700 由 2 皮 野 減 到 萬 7 咪 down 左 grade law , 即 係 cheap 左 咁 解 ?

Thanks for a lot opinions of C-hings and bro.Sorry to said that "downgrade" form FX to DX as in common sense expensive to cheaper is down.
I asked this question as I have a D90 and very satisfied with it.And I also have few FX lens so I no need to invest in lens.Seeing the D700 price keep on dropping,and my heart keep on beating.But I still like D90 light weight,user friendlly and accecptable price.I scare after go to D700 I may be back to D90 as the weight and professional controll.Thanks a lot.

How do you compare a D300s vs D700 in DX mode? Let say both using N17-55.

Will D700 still win in ISO performance? How about the PQ in general?

The reason I ask is because I don't want to change body and change lens at the same time. Thanks!
